This filter is for the larger of the two upright units with handles (Model 17400) and for two Enviracare Models (62500, 12520). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Honeywell suggests that you replace your HEPA filter every 1-3 years. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters which wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. The pre-filters should be changed every 3 months.

I have had this air purifier in my office for nearly two years now and have been searching for replacement filters. If anyone knows where to purchase them, please provide info.I have written to the company and received no response. I believe it works well and would like to continue using it but I have basically had to remove and wash the two filters that came with the product.The only other option I have is to unplug it and throw it out.I truly hope there are filters out there and that the company did not plan on everyone throwing these into the land fill after 1 year!!The UV light also needs to be replaced.

We have neighbors that smoke and the smell sometimes gets in to the baby's room so I got this filter when it was time to replace the one already in the odor eliminator and it works wonders. The smell from his diaper genie as well as the cigarette smell is no longer in his room. I would recommended this as the replacement filter even if you don't have smokers in your home.

We hadn't had a dog for quite some time, so after a few days you could really smell the dog.I put one of these purifiers in "her" room, which is pretty big (we converted our two car garage into her room). The next morning you could really tell the difference.I will have to change the filters out in that unit much quicker than the other one in the house, but it really works in taking odors out of the air. It is a good buy!!

I used to have stuffy nose when allergy season comes and I have to take different kinds of allergy medicines every year for releasing my allergy symptoms.Now I am drug free. Friedrich Pre-Filter for C-90B Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)There are two types of filtering systems; whole house hookups which are installed professionally or self-installed, and individual roomunits.Consumer Reports says "The most effective type of air cleaner is a professionally installed whole-house system; but it's also expensive and feasible only in houses with forced-air heating or cooling. Simple replacement furnace filters are inexpensive and easy to maintain, but generally better suited to clearing large particles from the air. Room air cleaners are your only option if you don't have a forced-air system."

Of the room units, there are two basic technologies HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air)filters, in which a fan draws air through a paper or fine-mesh filter,and electrostatic precipitators which draw air through an electrical field. Charged particles are then trapped on oppositely charged collector plates.

All precipitators generate small amounts of ozone, which has an odor that may be objectionable. They may also make a crackling sound as they accumulate dirt.

The best precipitators use a fan. I know everybody loves the The Sharper Image and the Hoover one but they have no fan; the Honeywell Environizer has a weak one. The Friedrich C-90 has a fan.

ConsumerReports.org rated this one ten times better over the Sharper Image ones, which are basically over rated and you're paying for the marketing and packaging. The Friedrich C-90 topped all of Consumer Reports tests on filters hands down.

It's not as sleek as the Ionic Breezes, but it gets the job done, and keeps your home as clean as any machine on the market will.

Hunter 30398 Quiet Flo Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)I did a lot of researching and first purchased a Honeywell for our daughter's bedroom and then ended up purchasing this model due to the larger capacity for our family room. While the Honeywell is very quiet it is also very large and it does not seem to move the air as well. We accidentally stumbled upon how significant the air flow is with this model. My 5-year-old was playing with her balloon and it landed on top of this it kept it mid air on low setting we then turned it on high and it blew it and maintained it to the top of our 15 ft cathedral ceilings! It will also turn our ceiling fans if positioned in the right spot on the floor! It is pretty noisy on the medium and high settings but very quiet on the low setting. We keep it on low at all times and then when we leave for the day or go to bed we turn it on high. You should see the amount of dust the prefilter has collected! Yuck! It certainly has to help our allergy prone family. My only negative for this product was the expense of the filters, but they are super easy to change. Otherwise, very, very effective.

The controls made it easy to start an hour before I got home, or an hour after I'd fall asleep, but after a year it would not work in any outlet (in two apartments) UNLESS I had it plugged into my UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) and the UPS was unplugged from the wall and running on it's batteries! I'm not kidding. This was true in 2 apartments; two UPS units... Other than that, great!

(More customer reviews)While it's difficult to directly measure the effect that this air filter is having on the environment with any degree of certainty without tools to measure air quality it certainly seems to me to be doing a good job.I wake up feeling better, and my sinuses have stopped giving me trouble.I'm able to breathe much better, and through both nostrils, consistently; it's been so long since I could do that I'd forgotten what it was like.I believe I'm even sleeping better because of it.And it is QUIET, on the low setting I dare say silent.I kept looking at the blue light to be sure it was on.The only complaint:I got the activated carbon filter and, apparently during shipping, some of the black dust got into the container an left noticeable black marks on a few places on the outside of the filter case.I haven't found any cleaner that will take them off yet, very stubborn.Oh, and the shipping was kind of slow.

Air-O-Swiss 1355 Air Washer Humidifier/Purifier (Grey) Review

(More customer reviews)I really like this product and have no idea what the review about the 'bad smell' is all about. I mean, this unit is all plastic, and you add water, just like any humidifier, so if you have a bad smell it must be coming from the water, or you have some nastiness in your house that is being multiplied by the humidity. The only thing I can smell is the smell of water.

Anyway, I am sitting here in the middle of a blizzard in Colorado, and of course I have my furnace going full steam. For my small house (750 sq. ft.) it keeps the humididty about 10-15 points higher. So according to my hygrometer, it is at 35% right now, and without the air-o-swiss running it goes down to around 20% (pretty dry huh). I am actually thinking of getting another one, as I want one for my bedroom and my living room.

This product is comparable to the Venta (which I have also tried), but it is cheaper and easier to fill. With the Venta you have to either pick up the whole unit, or buckets to fill it. A pain. With this guy you just re-fill the plastic water tank, which holds a little over a gallon. The unit itself holds another gallon internally, so you have to re-fill it twice the first time. I find that I am re-filling it about once a day, and it takes all of 1/2 a minute, real convienient.

As far as cleaning goes, I just did that last night after about 3 weeks of use. I simply put the base unit in the sink and sprayed the interior down. Everything comes apart/goes back together easily. There was some dusty dirt type stuff in there, which is cool, b/c that means that this guy is actually doing what it says, i.e. cleaning the air.

So I really like this product, and like I said, I am thinking of getting another. - Matt
