Hunter 30067 Hepatech Air Purifier for Medium-Size Rooms Review

(More customer reviews)Shortly after adopting a cat from a local humane society, my son developed asthma as a direct result of an undiagnosed cat allergy. An allergist advised us to remove the cat from our home (some friends adopted it) and as much of the cat hair and dander as we possibly could. I did some online research and decided that an indoor air purifier would probably help us out and relieve my son's asthma and allergy symptoms. I purchased this Hunter air purifier #30067 and model #30251 also made by Hunter and placed this one in my son's room and the other one in the kitchen. Within about an hour of plugging the air purifiers in, my son's itchy/red eyes and sneezing and coughing were almost gone. On two different occasions, my older son turned the purifiers off and within a short time, my allergic son's symptoms returned!! These two units have been wonderful for my son's allergies. I have had the purifiers for about a month and I just cleaned the pre-filters with the vacuum cleaner. I was amazed at the amount of dust and cat hair I could see on the pre-filter. The replaceable filters are looking a little gray in color, but I don't think they need replacing just yet. I have found several online companies that stock the replacement filters. My only complaints with the air purifiers are that they are a little loud. You will get used to the sound after awhile. And, I am having trouble figuring out what replacement filters to buy. This isn't real clear. But other than these two minor complaints, I am very pleased with the price of both Hunter air purifiers and the job they are doing in easing my son's troublesome allergy/asthma symptoms. I would highly recommend this product!

It has become like a quiet little sentry - constantly monitoring fumes, odors and particulates in my home.As others have noted - a minor complaint is the bright light at night.I tape a cloth napkin over the light panel which detracts from the product's good looks.Also - I cannot understand why it was designed to require the remote to work the menu - I also tape my remote to the unit as it is very small and would be easily misplaced.But these are small points compared to the performance.Hope it lasts!

IQAir AM GCX Air Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)There is no magical, cheap, silent, super-energy efficient way to REALLY clean air. PERIOD. There are only measured compromises.
The IQAir is the absolute best air cleaner available to the public. It makes a bit of noise, but very, very little for the massive volume of air. It uses a bit of electricity, but it takes power to pump air through such absolutely, ridiculously, fabulously purifying multi-stage filters. THINK about it.
The filters seem pricey. THEY AREN'T. The filters last a stupefyingly long time. They are huge and thick--everything they need to be, to stop greater than 99% of .003 micron particulates, plus the huge .3 micron particules that make the filters HEPA certified. Just try to picture the difference--a thousand times smaller. That's like the difference in size between a b-b and a 15 foot diameter ball (if they exist). If you spend a bit more, you get gas filtering too. Spend a little more and get yourself a cleanroom certified IQAir, if you need it.
An IQAir Healthpro Plus saved my wife and I from suffering while several brush fires over the past few years have lapped at our neighborhood. Before having the IQAir, we both suffered gravely whenever brush fires were anywhere within 50 miles.
After two years of us raving about our IQAir, our next door neighbors (asthma sufferers) sought refuge in our home during the last fire which was a couple miles upwind and within sight of our house. One evening of easy breathing was enough to convince the cheapskates to pony up for an IQAir (and donate to charity their various Honeywell, Hunter and other big-box store joke filters scattered around their house).

(More customer reviews)I've owned this Bionaire purifier for about 8 months and so far I have no complaints. This month the red check light went on which I assumed was to replace the filter. Filter replacement was very easy. Amazon sells the filters for $25 for a two pack which is a really good deal. I noticed nose stuffiness and allergy symptoms reduced within a month after I owned the product. It quickly removes smoke and other bad smells. I enjoy the 3 settings although I mostly use the medium and high settings. Some people are picky about noise but the medium setting is just a quiet hum and of course the high setting is a little louder but I find it useful for blocking out outside noise anyway. Overall, I think this is a good product for the price.

Alen Air Purifier - A350 Review

(More customer reviews)My wife requested that we purchase this air filter to reduce allergens and dust in our (partially-built) home's air.I was skeptical about the unit due to the cost and several reviews (at various vendors) citing noise and poor fan bearing performance; appealing to me was the size, shape, and ability to wall-mount it.So, with a little goading from her, we decided to accept the risk and try it out.

It is an impressive little unit!We run it on setting 2, which moves quite a bit of air in near-silence, when we are home.Settings 3 and 4 are fairly loud, but I think that is unavoidable given the massive amount of airflow these settings generate versus the size of the unit.The unit is now in constant use (again, almost exclusively at setting 2 with the ionizer active) for over three weeks without any change in performance, so I expect we will not have any problems with it in the short run.The room in which it is located is 650 sq ft.Dust reduction is substantial, but I will wait longer before determining just how well it works in that regard.

ADDENDUM AS OF 6/24/2010:

Six months have passed and the unit continues to work flawlessly.Dust accumulation in the house is reduced by half, at least.I have to clean the pre-filter about once a month, but it separates from the HEPA portion easily and can be hand washed or cleaned with compressed air.I suspect I was over-estimating the quietness of setting 2, but I still think it is fairly quiet (not much louder than my computer fans).My wife loves silence and will often turn it off if she decides to take a nap on the couch that is located nearby.

From day one in the home, I began waking up every morning with a migraine. After about a week straight of this, I decided I needed to try something to alleviate what I suspected to be the issue. I began researching products that killed mold and mildew in the air, and with a limited budget and after a LOT of research, I settled on the Germ Guardian Tabletop Air Purifier.I am hooked!Hooked, hooked, hooked! I cannot tell you for sure that it was this item, but it has been over a week now with no migraine - not even a hint.

Furthermore, I have been taking nasal medication for about 4 years to keep me from snoring at night.Even with the medication, I would wake up most mornings with at least one of my nasal passages plugged or partially plugged. I'm 5'10" 175, so it's not a weight issue.Since we plugged in this machine, I have woken up clean and clear.I even slept last night without my nasal medication just to check, and I slept great.

I will be the first to say that it has only been a week, but I am amazed at the results...so far. I will say that this unit is a little noisy, but for me, it is a no brainer trade off: health vs. a little noise - I'll take the noise! We run the unit 24/7 with it on low during the day and on high during the night. We also run our ceiling fan on low to keep the air in the room circulating so that we are sure that the unit has a chance to cleanse the entire room.

I hope this helps someone. I'll try to update this at the month mark and then the year mark as well.I hope to continue the good report.

Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters, 4-pack Review

(More customer reviews)The "Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters" are for use for several models of the Bionaire Air Cleaners(see editorial review for model numbers). I have the Bionaire BAP1175 Quietech Hepa Air Cleaner(which by the way is a fabulous product in itself).
My air cleaner works on a 3 filter system. The first removes the larger particles from the air(it may be washed) Next,this one, is a carbon filter(very easy to install and remove) that traps odors. This works great. The carbon filter does a good job of removing dog smells, smoke and cooking odors as well. It is recommended to change these filters(there are 2) every 3-6 months(it may not be washed).These filters are fairly inexpensive to replace.The instruction manuel says you will know when to replace it, as "odor removal effectiveness will be noticeably reduced". That is exactly how I knew when to change my filters.Running it almost constantly, it was just short of the 3 months that I noticed they needed to be changed, but I attribute that to the house being closed up all summer with the A/C on. And by the way, after replacing the filters,on which I could also see all the dust they filtered, I noticed the difference within minutes!(even with the dog in the house). They are simple to change(I can finally do something I don't have to ask the menfolk to help with), and they come four in a pack, so your all set for the next time. They come in a plastic resealable bag and advise to keep the spares sealed up to maintain freshness. When I ordered, I noticed that they took just a little longer then the other items, so order early.
Oh and for those interested in the Hepa Air Cleaner Model BAP1175...the third filter is the hepa filter..This is already in the machine on arrival. This filter, according to the manuel, removes 99.97% of particulate as small as 0.3 microns in size. It filters smoke, dust, pollen mold spores, pet dander and "some" bacteria. And I believe it. Now these filters are quite a bit more expensive to replace, but they last quite a while, somewhere between 12-24 months. And you will know exactly when to replace it, because there is a great feature, a digital read out of how much filter life is left.After nearly 3 months mine still has about 87% life left. For more info on the air cleaner itself please see my review.
A great buy on a very good product and easy to get here at Amazon(as opposed to running around trying to find the model number I needed.)

(More customer reviews)Contrary to Honeywell, this unit "pulses" air from the get-go.That would be with all new filters that came with the unit.From Honeywell's site concerning this unit model, it should only pulse when the filters require changing.

The unit makes quite a bit of noise on low speed, enough to compete with the TV and conversation if placed in the same room.We have it in an unused bedroom, not sure how good it will do there for cleaning air in the rooms we do use.

The image shows that the unit is brown, however we received the more pleasant white color.

I regret the purchase and will be purchasing a whole house filter unit that attaches to the central air unit's air handler.

All that being said, it appears to be cleaning air, so one star off for being excessively loud on low speed.UPDATE 01/10/10:I became used to the sound of the unit fairly quick.It is still noticable, but not too annoying since considering it is doing a job.The unit does clean the air in a 20x20 area very good, no doubt about that.It appears the filters do not require any maintenance for 90 days, and then only light vacumming/blowing now and then before a yearly replacement.Also, this particular unit utilizes a "CPZ canister (that) reduces smoke and odors".I retract my initial review above and rate this a five star product.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit a month ago after an extensive search for the "perfect" purifier at a good price. I went through the " I don't know about this brand blues" or " look at the price " comparing the others makes and models.
But I was sold when I called the company and talk to customer service after viewing the"you tube" presentation, they were honest and answered every question I had, I also like that I could return it no question ask if I didn't like it. The unit has more bang for the buck than any units I compared it to, and really their was no other unit that could match the combo of purification it has. This unit has 9 stages not 1 or 2 like the store brands. Well the unit arrived quick and setup was easy I was afraid it would be loud compared to what I heard at the stores but to my surprise it was perfect on "auto" and like all the reviewers are stating you will notice the difference in hours if not minutes this machine really works. I would buy again !
