Blueair 501 Console Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)The Blueair company is a wonderful company to work with and helped settle my issues. I ordered 2 of the 501 units with replacement filters sight unseen based on user reviews. This is a very quality built unit, but the speed settings on the fan are far from usable. The lower speeds barely move enough air, yet the high speed is so noisy that you will think a tornado is in the room with you. The company gladly exchanged my 2 501 units with the 400 series units. The 401 units are far quieter and way more efficient in the way in which it moves the air, so order the 401, you can't go wrong. Keep in mind the 10 year warranty is only applicable if you can prove that you purchased and changed the filters every six months, if not no warranty exists, and the filters are not free, but affordable.In my opinion the 401 is the way to go, stay clear of the 501's due to the noise and air flow design, the Blueair company is second to none in customer support and are highly recommended. Thanks Blueair for helping me get it right....This is one heck of a company that will take care of it's customers. Also keep in mind when you order a Blueair purifier unit, one filter set will come included with the applicable unit that you order. If you order filters, they will be used later for replacements, I wasn't sure when I ordered if the filters were included but they were.

Having spent a lot of $$$ in humidifiers/ozone/air purifiers & co., I decided to test the use of this relatively inexpensive machine, using a different fragrance (even if the instructions specifically forbid this). Worst case scenario, I figured, I've thrown $50 down the drain (surely not for the last time!)
I found that you can pour in just a teaspoon or so of Mrs. Meyer's Ironing spray (love their smells), fill the tank up with water as usual and...

BOOM! Just kidding...

My Homedics has worked just fine for a month, now. A full size bottle of Mrs. Meyer's ironing spray is way cheaper than the Homedics refill... and you can't beat the smells of geranium, basil, lavender or lemon verbena. Try it yourself, but I warn you... I said to use the ironing spray which is a liquid, non-foaming solution. Other products, especially essential oils won't work or may clog your machine.
Once you try this, you'll be excited at the prospect of using the Homedics without being hooked to the purchase of so-so fragrances that are way too expensive, and not that enjoyable (according to my husband's nose!)

There, problem solved, my husband's nose is now finally satisfied!

This filter is for four Enviracare Models (51500, 61500, 11520, and 17200). I replace my HEPA filter every year because I am very allergic to cigarette smoke, pollens, dust, molds, and other allergens and irritants. Honeywell suggests that you replace your HEPA filter every 1-3 years. Also, this HEPA filter has pre-filters which wrap around it, so you may want to order a box of those, too. Honeywell recommends that the pre-filters be changed every 3 months, but I've found if I vacuum them at least once a month, I can keep them longer. I really like my HEPA filters because they remove so much dust and pet hair from the air.

(More customer reviews)I received the 503 as a gift.It was easy to install the filters into the unit.Even by running the unit on high, it's not obnoxiously loud.The squirrel-cage blower really puts out the air.I've noticed a big difference in my ability to sleep without congestion, which for me causes pseudo-apnea.The remote control is a really nice touch, because I hate getting up to adjust settings.I do wish it made a bit more ozone, though.

My greatest concern is that Mitsubishi is no longer making this unit (I can't understand why), and that replacement filters might not be available in five years when I need to replace.

(More customer reviews)Buy a 16X20 FILTRETE UltraAllergern furnace filter instead.I measure and cut the end off the length.It has a wire mesh on both sides of the filter, so cut it with a pair of wire clippers, then use a box knife on the filter.Yes you will cut the end of the paper frame off, but its still works fine. I have been using this method for 5 years on 3 air cleaners, saving a bunch of money.I change them 2-3 times a year. I do not use the pre-filter anymore.Its just more money down the drain.

Austin Air Pet Machine Review

(More customer reviews)We have had 2 labs for less than a year...the pet machine was bought shortly after the arrival of the second one (a 6 year lab-already house broken!). I felt like the machine worked for less than a week to rid house of "dog smell". There has never been a smell of "accidents" - just that dog odor that I never wanted. We have hard wood floors so there is no carpet to trap odor. Dogs are not on furniture. Machine is by their beds. Beds are vacuumed almost daily and washed often. We vacuum all floors daily. Made mistake of emailing Austin Air directly to complain and was completely dismissed. (even though I was in my 30 day window to return). I did hear from a nicer lady from the place I actually bought it from (through austin air's website?) and she convinced austin air to send me a new filter. It has not changed anything. For all its promises, I cannot say it produces any results on any of them. I am very disappointed with it.

Smellkiller Classic Air Cleanser Review

However, I have tried it in the fireplace (ash odor), basement (musty odor), son's dorm room (who knows what that odor is), trash bin (old garbage odor) and generally around the house. I cannot tell a difference.

Washed it thoroughly before use according to directions. Kept the water level filled and ... nothing. Odors persist where they were difficult before.

If you read the instructions, descriptions and reviews, you will notice a common thread: you must wait many hours for it to work. I think that what is happpening when people report that it "works" is that these odors dissipate on their own in that time. One reviewer even pointed out that if you place the SmellKiller, wait and open the windows, in a short time the odor is gone. I suspect that opening the windows is what did it, not the SmellKiller.

If it seems too good to be true ...you know the rest.

We had the water vacuumed out from the carpet and cleaned up but the basement smelled like wet dirty dog - we were concerned that it was going to smell much worse as it slowly dried out. We put a dehumidifier and our 2 GPs in the basement and let them all run. After everything finally dried out (which took a week) there has been no lingering odor or mold and if you walked into the room you would not even know we had water covering the entire carpeted floor last month. We use the Ionic Breeze GPs in different rooms of the house all year and we love them - they keep the air clean and fresh and we have never had any problems with them. As an everyday user - I strongly recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)I bought the Austin Healthmate Jr. about 2 years ago for a dusty area and have been happy with it.The threethings I like best about it are that you don't have to buy filters very often because you can vacuum the outside of the filter and that it's relatively quiet.The other thing is that it takes air in on all four sides and blows the filtered air out through the top area. It seems to do a good job of filtering the air.It's more energy efficient than air purifiers I've used in the past and it has 3 speeds which is nice.

If you use it in really dusty conditions like mine, you can replace the pre-filter more often than the big filter.I've found this type of material that I could cut to fit at a local hardware store.You get a pre-filter with it.You have to take it apart to replace the pre-filter and filters, but it isn't difficult.You can turn off the machine and vacuum it from the outside and that seems to help the filters last longer.Of course, you'll want to use a vacuum cleaner with a hepa filter or you defeat the purpose.I replace mine about once a year, but I think the average person could go much longer.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't really have any way of measuring how good of a job it really does, only that it seems to do a good job in terms of allergies, odors, etc.There are so many air filters out there and so many claims, that it's hard to sort them out.But if I had to buy a filter for another room, I would probably buy this brand again.

No, it does not come with a charcoal filter but it does have a pre-filter and a HEPA filter.I bought the charcoal filter separately but have not installed it yet.I ran the unit on high for an hour and it was quieter than running a fan and it removed all the smoke from the 2 smokers in the house.It comes with a remote and has 4 speeds and a timer.I had an ionic air purifier that didn't help half as much as this one does.Very happy with my purchase and I would recommend it.

(More customer reviews)...And I've owned many. I've tried the traditional "wick" humidifiers, steam vapor, ultrasonic, and even ones with pumps. None can compare to the convenience and reliability of the Air-O-Swiss, though.

Steam Vapor ran my electric bill through the roof (it eats electricity like crazy). Ultrasonic created white dust that got into everything, no matter how small the crevice (even got on the CD inside my CD-ROM drive). As for the one with pumps? Um, the pumps burned out after 2 months.

My traditional wick humidifier was the most reliable of my previous humidifiers, but wicks need constant replacement (which can get expensive if you live in an arid region like me) and their performance degrades as you use them more (eventually even with frequent cleaning, they will just not absorb water any more and the reservoir on your humidifier will frustratingly be full).

The Air-O-Swiss works like a wick-based humidifier, except instead of a wick it uses slowly rotating plastic discs (about a dozen of them)to increase the surface area of water-to-air contact. A fan facilitates the flow of air through the housing. It does a great job of keeping the air breathable, and thus keeps my associated allergies at bay, but it's also so quiet that I can't even tell it's on unless I put my hand over the inlets/outlets to feel the air flow.

The simplicity of its design lends to its reliability (it's just a fan and a motor to turn the discs very slowly). It doesn't have any wicks that need to be replaced, though it still needs regular cleaning (to get rid of mineral buildup). I've had it for about 3 months now and have had no problems with it. After trying so many different types of humidifiers, I was almost ready to just settle for my old wick-based humidifier (for which I was spending about 20$ a month in wicks). I'm very glad I discovered this humidifer.
